Bridge Collapsed

A bit of a tragedy struck in Minneapolis today. A bridge on one of the major freeways just outside of downtown collapsed just after rush hour. No indication as to why yet. It’s about 40 years old, and probably wasn’t quite engineered to handle the traffic it received. It was also undergoing some construction with 4 of the 8 lanes closed to traffic. It could have been much worse.

Once I heard about it, I went downtown to try to get some pictures being as I live only about 2 miles away. I manged to get some, but the police had the streets and areas around the bridge and freeway blocked off. The response to the disaster was very quick and came from not just the city of Minneapolis, but from all the cities and counties that make up the metro area. There were emergency vehicles from suburbs about 15 miles away.

This is a major freeway through the Twin Cities area. over 100,000 cars use this bridge every day. With the planned construction on a portion of the same freeway in south Minneapolis. Getting around could get a little more difficult.

Watched the news last night. Glad you’re not involved. Vita might freaked out. INterested tho, that people’s first assumption was terrorist-related. Hm.

Yeah, any accident is first thought to be terrorism related. It looks like now there were some known issues with the bridge, its just that it broke sooner than they expected. Now they are going to reassemble it somewhere like an airplane to figure out what went wrong.

Very true about the freak out. I worry a lot about Dan’s being safe and all.
